My piercing has a lump, what shall I do?
This is one of the most common issues people can have, especially with cartilage and navel piercings, which are prone to getting knocked and caught. There are many reasons as to why a bump may have developed and there is a lot of misinformation out there, referring to Dr Google is never a good idea. But don’t worry, there are steps to treat it, and it’s unlikely to be a keloid. You don’t need to remove the piercing, it just requires a little patience and care. Steps to treat the issue are:

• Don’t touch it.
• Keep it clean & dry. Don’t go to bed with wet hair. Dry it thoroughly with a hairdryer after showering, cleaning etc.
• Don’t put any creams or ointments like TCP, Tea Tree oil, Savalon etc. on it.
• Ensure clothes/glasses are not rubbing on the piercing.
• Check that the jewellery you have is of a good quality and the right size and shape (we can help you with that)
• Sleep with a travel pillow/pillow with a hole (if appropriate for ear/facial piercings) to avoid compressing the piercing.
• Apply a chamomile tea compress.
