So, we’re off to do the Manchester Tattoo Show! Conventions are a great way of networking and advertising for tattooists, but what’s in it for you?
- Mixing with like-minded people, all in to tattooing. The tattoo culture itself is amazing and mostly full of open-minded people, pretty much just like you. Get out and about!
- At quality conventions, you have the opportunity to see and possibly get tattooed by exceptional artists from all around the globe; artists that could otherwise cost you thousands of pounds in travelling expenses alone should you wish to get work done by them. Conventions are an excellent opportunity to get a tattoo by in-demand artists if you’re lucky. Even if you don’t get tattooed by one of them, let yourself be exposed to the people and styles of tattooing beyond your local scene. If you actually do want to be tattooed by someone relatively famous &/or respected in the tattoo community, don’t wait, get in touch with the artist in advance and find out if they have any openings. Some artists prefer to book appointments before the show, while others love to leave their appointment books behind, for a change, preferring the live interaction, creativity and spontaneity possible only at a show.
- If you’re unsure of what you want for your next piece of artwork, or you’re a tattoo virgin, conventions can be a great way of giving you inspiration and possibly finding the artist you want to do it for you.
- Conventions offer a wide variety of entertainment, so it’s not just about watching people tattoo or getting tattooed. You can spend hours walking around, interacting with stall holders selling anything from beard balm to stuffed animals (taxidermy!). Then there’s the entertainment happening on stage! It’s a great day out or weekend away.
